Literature Publication
Gospel Literature production remains SALT’s primary focus.
We have just completed reformatting the next two Bible courses for use in Malawian prisons – there are now 6 courses available in the new format, complete with all the Bible references necessary to enable a prisoner to complete the study even if s/he has no access to a Bible.
At the time of writing the revised materials are with our printer and we hope to have around 6,000 booklets available in the next couple of weeks. We continue reformatting work on the next two courses and hope to have them ready for printing shortly.
We have also just ordered 500,000 of our most popular Gospel Tracts. We hope to send a major consignment of literature from the UK in September and these are intended to meet demand until that shipment arrives later in the year.
In the will of the Lord we plan to produce a further supply of Exercise Books and John 3:16 pens for the Malawi Prison schools.
Malawi Gospel Outreach
Plans for our August outreach are now well under way. We expect to be in Malawi for Open-Air outreach, Children’s Work and Literature Distribution between 8-18 August. Please continue to pray as we finalise arrangements for accommodation, overland transport and the various outreach activities.
This year we are expecting around 14-18 volunteers, mostly from USA & Canada, so please pray for all as they undertake the long journey to join the team, and that the Lord will grant us a safe and fruitful time together in the spread of the Gospel.
Cyclone Update
The longer-term effects of Cyclone Idai are becoming apparent. Although it’s estimated that over 1,000 perished, many tens of thousand of people have lost their homes and/or crops due to the strong winds and heavy rain which swept across the region.
We are relying heavily upon our local brothers to assess and prioritise the needs. Apart from supplying food to prisoners in distress, our exercise is particularly to help the brothers who have been faithfully distributing our Gospel Literature and we are continuing to compile a list of several scores of families affected to varying degrees. Some have already been going multiple days without food, and will require assistance all the way through to next harvest season, while others will only require a small amount of help to maintain repairable dwellings. Please pray that all of us engaged in this effort with be wise and faithful in our stewardship of these resources.
Container Shipment
Our first container of Prison Hygiene Packs left for Malawi a couple of weeks ago and is expected to arrive mid-late July. If you are interested in sending hygiene packs in the next shipment, please take note that our next consignment is planned for September when we also hope to send a large consignment of literature, including our 2020 Gospel Calendar and a large supply of tracts and booklets.
Other Issues
We are still patiently waiting for progress on the land purchase and vehicle repairs referred to in our previous update.
Please continue to pray with us for these and the other aspects of the work of SALT.
Many thanks.
