  • Pray: Stephen travelling to Malawi
Stephen asks us to pray for his scheduled trip to Malawi, this week. He will spend Tuesday night in Dublin and depart for Malawi on Wednesday morning, and expects to arrive in Blantyre around 1pm on Thursday. Please not only pray that Stephen will be sustained while away, and that his trip will be fruitful, but also remember Gail as she remains at home
  • Give Thanks/Pray: Progress with Nthawi Ya Baibulo (Bibletime)
Anna says: It has been so exciting to see how the Lord has been moving things along with the Bibletime curriculum. Please give thanks with us that the work of printing the first Chichewa lessons is already underway. Please pray for help preparing for and training those who will also be teaching using the curriculum.
  • Pray: Cholera Death Toll increasing
Wati says: Please pray about the continuing increase of Cholera-related deaths in Malawi. Please pray that the health authorities would be able to bring the outbreak under control, and that the Lord’s people would be kept safe and well. https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/malawi-cholera-death-toll-crosses-1300-health-official-2023-02-09/ Note: Cholera is associated with poor access to good sanitation and clean water – this reminds us to pray for the wider poverty-related problems in Malawi.
  • Pray: Preliminary Plans for MGO 2023
The information application page for MGO 2023 has recently gone live. Although MGO is still 6 months away, we know from experience this goes in very quickly. Please pray as the planning process gets underway, and particularly that the Lord will put it into the hearts of the right people to volunteer. We have been so blessed with great help in previous years, and we are looking to the Lord for this year again, in His will.
  • Pray: Safeguarding training in Malawi
Stephen says: “Please pray for a week of Safeguarding training planned for later this month. Many children in Malawi are subject to horrendous abuse. It’s essential that SALT not only supports children who are, or could be victims, but that we ensure that they are completely safe when in our care. “We have engaged a Christian organisation which specialises in Safeguarding in neighbouring Zambia to give the training, and I am looking forward to participating when I am there later this month, Lord willing. In the meantime, pray for those preparing the training, and that the week will present opportunities… Read more: Pray: Safeguarding training in Malawi
  • Pray: Printing of the Bibletime curriculum
Anna writes: Please pray for the timely printing of the Bibletime curriculum and for help as we seek to pilot and continue revising it in the coming year. The most important thing, of course, is that God would use it to make the many children we work with “wise unto salvation.” Note: The team has been working hard on the Chichewa translation of Nthawi ya Baibilo (Bibletime) which is currently being used in Swahili as a pilot in Dzaleka Refugee Camp. The artwork for the first year of material is undergoing final minor revisions, and should soon be ready for… Read more: Pray: Printing of the Bibletime curriculum

  • Give Thanks: Journeying mercies
Wati says: “We can thank God for journeying mercies for Harold and Goodson as they travelled over the past two weeks meeting with distributors and giving out literature. The roads are already dangerous and can be particularly so in the rainy season. Here are some of the areas they visited in the space of two weeks:
  • Give Thanks – Safe trip to Lilongwe
Anna says, “I’m thankful for a safe trip to Lilongwe. Though things took longer than anticipated, I am thankful that we were able to get all of the boxes to the different depots and storage areas.” Note: Anna was helping Brother Harold with the logistics of moving the recently-arrived consignment of calendars and hygiene packs, as hers is the only vehicle suitable for moving stuff during the wet season. In typical Malawian fashion, there was a series of delays, but with the Lord’s help they eventually got the job done.
  • Give Thanks: Encouraging response to reports
Brother Stephen is approaching the end of his present visit to CA, AZ & NM, USA. Please give thanks for a very encouraging response to the reports of the work in Malawi, with many of the Lord’s people committing to pray for its blessing. Stephen will travel home on Tuesday, and plans to return to Malawi on 16 Feb (DV).
  • Give Thanks: Nthawi Ya Baibulo (Bibletime)
Anna says, “The BES (Bibletime) material is almost ready and the crew here are on board with using it for our Saturday class – both definite answers to prayer!” Note: The team has been working on the Chichewa translation of BES Bibletime for the past year or more. We are grateful for the completion of the design work on the material for Year 1 of the 3-year cycle. Years 2 & 3 are still in progress. We plan to use the Y1 booklets for a small-scale pilot while the remaining materials are being translated. This is a very exciting step… Read more: Give Thanks: Nthawi Ya Baibulo (Bibletime)
  • Give Thanks: Goodson’s son’s (John) health
Give thanks for the improvement in Goodson’s son’s health. Many have enquired after we requested prayer when he was taken unwell with cerebral malaria. Goodson reports that he is doing very well, but the doctor has warned that his case was so serious that he should waste no time in seeking attention if he starts to feel unwell. Goodson wishes to thank everyone for their prayers.

  • Give thanks: recovery of men Anna picked up on road
Anna updates on the recovery of two men injured when knocked off a motorcycle in a hit and run accident near the site. “It’s easy to post prayer requests and forget to then share how God has answered, so I just wanted to follow up on the men who I took to the hospital. Yesterday one of them stopped by the site. He was the more banged up of the two and completely incoherent. I’m happy to report, though, that he has healed well. I was worried about a closed head injury, but he seemed back to normal apart from… Read more: Give thanks: recovery of men Anna picked up on road
  • Pray: John Chitenje
Please pray for John, one of the site workers at Saidi, who collapsed a couple of days ago and has been in hospital since. Update: Give thanks! Goodson updated me yesterday (9 Feb) that Mr Chitenje has been discharged from hospital and is feeling much better. Thanks for praying.
  • Pray: Christmas Program at Saidi

  • Upcoming kids’ Christmas camp at Dzaleka
Please pray for plans for a kid’s camp at Dzaleka from 16-18 December. Specifically pray for opportunities to build relationships with the children, for safety, and that many will be blessed by the Word of God
