Earlier this year SALT hosted a two-day seminar with key members of the Malawi Prison Service Chaplaincy team.
It became apparent that the importance of chaplaincy as a distinct role within the service is not fully understood, and we undertook to start working with the team to change that.
One small step on this journey is to make the Prison Chaplain more identifiable as we continue to define the role and deliver the service.
Somewhat delayed because of Covid-19, we have today been able to deliver the promised hi-vis vests which we hope will help chaplains across the country stand out from their security colleagues. We are grateful to Bro. Ananda for his help and hope that this will give chaplains a clearer sense of purpose as they perform this invaluable task.

Each vest is printed with the wonderful words of John 8:36, “If the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed” which will now be seen daily by almost 30,000 prison inmates.
